Are you trying to conceive, but it hasn’t happened as easily as you’d hoped?
Are you stressed out by the monthly roller coaster ride, the emotional highs and lows?
Looking for ways to reduce the stress and anxiety that can lower your chances of conceiving?

If you’ve answered yes to the above questions, then you must know that you’re not alone.

Trying to conceive a child without success is one of the hardest challenges in life to face. Not only because often the reason is left unexplained – but because the process itself is very disempowering. Medication, hormones, medical procedures, and diet & lifestyle changes often fail to make any significant difference. This can leave many women – and men – with feelings of stress, anxiety and depression. The sad part is that in a cruel cycle, it is often times the stress and anxiety that further decrease the chances of conceiving, because the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline interfere with ovulation and conception.

A Fertile Mind optimizes your chances of conceiving

Just as toxins and chemicals harm our fertility, destructive and negative thought patterns and habits do the same. Unexpressed or unresolved negative feelings can create emotional conflict, which can affect the body on a cellular level.

Stress is the enemy of fertility

It is a well known fact that stress chemistry – namely the hormones Adrenaline and Cortisol – interfere with ovulation and conception, reducing the chances of falling pregnant, and the chances of maintaining a pregnancy. Studies have shown that both Acupuncture and Hypnotherapy substantially reduce the levels of stress hormone within the body, thus increasing the chances of conceiving and having a baby

How does Hypnotherapy help to optimise my fertility?

The theory behind how Hypnosis helps improve fertility is simple. Hypnotherapy helps to overcome the stress and anxiety that contributes to infertility. Worry and Stress = negative self hypnosis, whilst Hypnotherapy = positive perception. Moving from negative self talk to positive perception results in a far greater chance of conceiving

Dr. Elizabeth Muir, a UK clinical psychologist specialising in hypnotherapy for infertility, outlines how hypnosis can affect the hypothalamus (neural centre at base of brain, linked to the pituitary gland). The hypothalamus has a direct effect on the flow of hormones in the body, and is sensitive to stress chemistry. Dr Muir shares how hypnotherapy helps to reduce stress, which in turn stimulates the hypothalamus gland to regulate the hormone picture to one that is conducive to successful conception. A study by Dr Muir’s showed that 45% of the women with unexplained infertility were able to conceive when hypnotherapy was added to their fertility program.

In support of this research, a study undertaken by Alice Domar, PhD, also show that mind-body techniques such as hypnotherapy are helpful for conceiving. The study, published in Fertility and Sterility in 2000, showed that 55% of previously infertile women undergoing mind-body therapy conceived, compared with only 20% of the control group who used no mind-body therapy

What can we expect to achieve from Fertility Hypnotherapy?

The ultimate goal is to achieve a positive pregnancy test, and then a pregnancy that carries successfully to 12 weeks, and further. There are no guarantees as to the outcome you will receive, given the number of factors that may be at play. However, some fall pregnant in the first few cycles, for others it can take longer or not at all. However, you can expect to notice a difference in a number of other symptoms after the first few sessions – improved menstrual cycles (reduced pain, improved regularity, better blood flow, more consistent moods), improved immunity and well being, better sleep patterns, and reduced levels of stress and anxiety.

What do the sessions consist of? During our fertility hypnotherapy sessions, we explore negative programming or emotional blocks to conception, with the aim of releasing the emotional blocks, and installing new and healthy programmes in their place. Hypnotherapy is able to transform the frustration and fear of not conceiving into a constructive and powerful force

It’s proven to work

Research into Hypnotherapy’s impact on Fertility is conclusive. In 2004, a study conducted by Professor Eliahu Levitas in Israel found that Hypnosis for fertility doubles the chances of success during IVF treatment. In this particular study, 28% of women in the hypnotised group conceived, compared to 14% of those in the non-hypnotised group.

In 1992, a clinical study found that women who were undergoing IVF and also participating in mind-body therapy for fertility experienced a 34% conception rate, whilst only 20% of those undergoing IVF alone conceived. Decreased levels of depression, anxiety and anger were also reported in those in the mind-body therapy group
